Anna Maria Island is connected to Bradenton on the mainland by two draw bridges, and to the northern end of Longboat Key by Gulf Drive. There's a distinctly Caribbean feel about many of the streets, with quaint old homes painted in faded pastel colors.

The public beaches on Coquina Beach and Bradenton Beach are very pretty wide, white sand beaches, and Coquina Beach is lined with Australian Pines.

Manatee County covers 772 square miles and its population comes close to 250,000.
